We Love Disney Songs!

I enjoy compilation albums. I enjoy Disney songs. We Love Disney brings those two things together in a great album that gives classic Disney songs a new sound with some of todays most popular artists. The new We Love Disney album featuring Ne Yo, Gwen Stefani, Ariana Grande, Tori Kelly and more!

Gwen Stefani’s “Rainbow Connection” from the Muppet Movie is nostalgic. Fall Out Boy’s rockabilly “I Wan’na Be Like You” from The Jungle Book gets your toes tapping. I like that they chose some songs that you don’t hear as often like Jhené Aiko’s “In a World of My Own/Very Good Advice,” from Alice in Wonderland. Even new classics like “Let It Go” from Frozen (the current favorite song of both of my daughters) sounds refreshed when sung by Lucy Hale & Rascal Flatts. The artists and songs chosen really do come from and cover the range of popular genres out there today.

Joy Williams VENUS Album Review

Joy Williams is known as one half of the four-time Grammy-winning folk-rock duo The Civil Wars. They had discussed the possibility of releasing solo albums eventually, but after the duo’s break up in 2014, Joy found herself ready to write and ready to find her own voice. In all honesty, I am not familiar with The Civil Wars, so I am able to hear this album with a fresh perspective. The polished sound obviously comes from a veteran of the music industry but it still sounds fresh and new.

Joy Williams VENUS, being released on June 29, 2015, is an honest recounting of the past two years of her life, dealing with the break up of The Civil Wars, moving, motherhood. While they are personal to her, they are also universal and I found myself connecting to many of them.

About the album, Joy says, “For me, it’s my coming-of-age album, becoming the woman I’ve always wanted to be. I think over the course of the last couple of years making this album, I finally felt that I stepped into my own skin. I’ve spent my whole life trying to be the best version of myself, and I’ve finally let myself just be me.” Isn’t that we are all trying to do? She goes on to say the themes of this record are “Acceptance. Transcendence. Trans-formation. Letting go of things that don’t serve you.”

Overall, Joy’s voice is smooth and clear. Haunting at some times, vivid at others. The instrumental tracks behind her are soothing and melodic in some songs and powerful and others. Yet, the 11 track album is cohesive and flows together nicely making in enjoyable played through.

My personal favorites:

Welcome Home – My absolute favorite song on this album is the one that also makes me a little misty eyed. It perfectly captures a mothers love. It starts by giving voice to the moment you meet your child and, to me, checks in at points of life throughout. Just wait, this song will be everywhere next Mother’s Day; it’s just beautiful.

Until the Levee – To me, this song comes from that moment in your life when you just can’t keep taking more on and you just have to let go, let the flood happen, move on, and get a new perspective.

Woman (Oh Mama) – Discusses all the facets of life that woman encompass, sometimes all in one day. The pulsing rhythm of the singers in the background electrifies this song. I don’t know about you, but I can’t help but start dancing in my chair when this song comes on.

Madonna’s Rebel Heart Album Review

rebel heart pic

Madonna is back! Madonna’s 13th studio album was just released by Interscope Records and it is genuine Madonna.

Madonna told Billboard “Rebel Heart explores two very distinct sides of my personality, the rebellious renegade side of me and the romantic side of me.” I can definitely see these two themes running through the songs of the album. There are some edgy songs about more adult topics (after all, it is Madonna) that make this album not exactly appropriately for family listening.

However, those are balanced with some catchy tunes that were more like classic Madonna with some soul and some sampling of her own hits. This new album features collaborations with Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, Nas, Chance the Rapper and Mike Tyson and was recorded in NY, LA and London which keeps it all current.

You can download Rebel Heart at http://bit.ly/REBELHEART. My personal favorites are Living for Love, Devil Pray, Joan of Arc, and Rebel Heart. It plays well as an album, but obviously, keep your earphones on at work and maybe not when the kids are in the car. Good to know there is also a “clean” version of Rebel Heart available, too.
Rebel Heart Track List
01 “Living For Love”
02 “Devil Pray”
03 “Ghosttown”
04 “Unapologetic Bitch”
05 “Illuminati”
06 “Bitch I’m Madonna” (Feat. Nicki Minaj)
07 “Hold Tight”
08 “Joan Of Arc”
09 “Iconic” (Feat. Chance The Rapper & Mike Tyson)
10 “HeartBreakCity”
11 “Body Shop”
12 “Holy Water”
13 “Inside Out”
14 “Wash All Over Me”
15 “Best Night”
16 “Veni Vidi Vici” (Feat. Nas)
17 “S.E.X.”
18 “Messiah”
19 “Rebel Heart”
Madonna’s Rebel Heart World Tour kicks off on Aug. 29 in Miami, FL. Check here to see if she is coming to a city near you. I had the opportunity to go to her Sticky & Sweet Tour a few years ago and it was an event. Great stage show, guest performers, devoted fans in costumes – I would recommend going if you enjoy Madonna. My sister and I were 80’s Madonna inspired but I have no idea where the photos are – ah, the days of pre-Facebook.

Idina Menzel’s Holiday Wishes Album Review

idina1

I am aware that it is November but we’ve already hit single digit weather and had to shovel snow. When I’m all bundled up, I can’t help but get a little pick me up when I here some jingle bells. Getting to hear Idina Menzel’s new album Holiday Wishes was a perfect little surprise this week. Idina Menzel’s voice is so smooth and pleasant and the sings chosen fit her perfectly. I am one of those people that actually enjoys holiday music in general so it’s nice to be able to add another great collection of songs to the mix.

My two personal favorites were the Baby It’s Cold Outside with Michael Bublé (the video is really cute, too) and When You Wish Upon a Star. I may be a little bias since my husband and I had our first dance to Michael Bublé and well, Frozen. I love that she covered the quintessential Disney song. My daughter enjoyed the songs, too, especially when she realized “Elsa” was singing them.

Visit Idina Menzel on her website, Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube. You can get a copy of Holiday Wishes on iTunes and Amazon.

Enjoy your turkey and football next week, but then, HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!

About Idina Menzel and Holiday Wishes

Holiday Wishes, a Christmas album recorded by Tony Award-winning singer/actor Idina Menzel, is out now on Warner Bros. Records.

The album was produced by Grammy Award-winner Walter Afanasieff (Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey) and features such classic favorites as “All I Want For Christmas Is You” and “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,” as well as Joni Mitchell’s Christmas-themed “River,” one of Menzel’s favorites.

Another highlight is a duet with international superstar Michael Bublé on “Baby It’s Cold Outside.” An exclusive Target edition of Holiday Wishes features two bonus tracks, including “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”.

Idina’s career has traversed stage, film, television, and music. She was most recently heard as Elsa in Disney’s global box-office smash Frozen, in which she sings the film’s Oscar-winning song “Let It Go.” After her performance of the multi-platinum song at the 86th annual Academy Awards, she made history as the first person with both a Billboard Top 10 hit and a Tony Award for acting.

Idina currently stars as Elizabeth in the original Broadway production of If/Then.
