Disney On Ice Treasure Trove Follow Up

We had a great time at Disney On Ice presents Treasure Trove tonight! Disney ALWAYS puts on a great show. Here’s a little about some of our favorite moments.

We are all about Alice in Wonderland right now and my 4 year old was ecstatic when the Alice in Wonderland segment began.

2015_10_21_9999_44aThey enjoyed getting to see Tinkerbell and Peter Pan flying around, and of course defeating the mean Captain Hook!

Of course, it isn’t a Disney production without an appearance by the Clubhouse gang – Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy came out for a bit to introduce some segments.

In my last Disney On Ice post, I mentioned that our family costume would be Alice in Wonderland themed. I made these two costumes from a few items I found at Goodwill – the blue dress was a juniors dress, the apron was a pillow case, and the whole cat costume came from a women’s top. While they aren’t without their mistakes, I impressed myself with actually completing them (with plenty of time) and they actually look pretty darn good.

I also made a slipcover for my Catbird Baby Pikkolo carrier! I used this tutorial but made the shape according the contours of my brand of carrier.

We Love Disney Songs!

I enjoy compilation albums. I enjoy Disney songs. We Love Disney brings those two things together in a great album that gives classic Disney songs a new sound with some of todays most popular artists. The new We Love Disney album featuring Ne Yo, Gwen Stefani, Ariana Grande, Tori Kelly and more!

disney 1

Gwen Stefani’s “Rainbow Connection” from the Muppet Movie is nostalgic. Fall Out Boy’s rockabilly “I Wan’na Be Like You” from The Jungle Book gets your toes tapping. I like that they chose some songs that you don’t hear as often like Jhené Aiko’s “In a World of My Own/Very Good Advice,” from Alice in Wonderland. Even new classics like “Let It Go” from Frozen (the current favorite song of both of my daughters) sounds refreshed when sung by Lucy Hale & Rascal Flatts. The artists and songs chosen really do come from and cover the range of popular genres out there today.

Easy DIY Lemon Disposal Refreshers

This morning I was getting ready to participate in another freezer meal swap. We participated in our first a couple of months back and it was a good experience so we decided to try it again. Learn more about freezer swaps from our coordinators post on Dayton Moms Blog.

This will likely be the last one we participate in for a few months since between Thanksgiving and Christmas, we have a plan to stock the freezer.

For the last freezer swap, I went with Six Sister’s Stuff’s Chicken Cacciatore with a good helping of fresh veggies mixed right in and jars of sauce and pasta were $1 or less (yay for coupons!). This time I picked One Crazy House’s Lemon Pepper Chicken and Rice recipe since it seems pretty straight forward and I like that the whole meal is in the crockpot – just start it and walk away for the day. Here’s hoping it all goes to plan.

The recipe calls for lemon slices to top the chicken so after preparing 8 meals, I had a bit of lemon ends left over. Whenever we end up with citrus peels, we put them down the garbage disposal with some ice for a little bit of help cleaning up the blades and to freshen things up.  As I sliced the lemons I started thinking that it may be too much to put down at once right then but what a waste to toss the rest.

That’s when I thought to grab my trusty ice cube tray! I cut up the peels and ends into chunks and put 1-2 in each section of the trays and topped with water. Once they freeze, I’ll move them to a baggie and, whenever we need it, we’ll have some lemon peel and ice all in one to toss into the garbage disposal. All natural and no throwing scraps away – win, win!

Amber Crown Baltic Amber Teething Bracelet

We have enjoyed being able to use Baltic amber necklaces to help our little girl through teething. We even started using it with our 4 year old when she was having recurring ear aches and to help her heal from having ear tubes put in. However, with a defiant 2 year old, I’ve been looking for other options to make sure she can’t take her Baltic amber off during the night.

The Amber Crown Baltic Amber Teething Bracelet has safety knots between the beads and a screw closure. Which the bracelet size, I’ve been able to put it on my daughters ankle and inside her footed pajamas – giving her relief and me piece of mind.

This year, our family costume for Halloween will be characters from Alice in Wonderland with my oldest being Alice, my youngest being the Cheshire Cat, my husband as the Mad Hatter, and myself as the Queen of Hearts. I’ll probably still be working on the costumes right up until Halloween, but if you are looking for some Alice in Wonderland inspiration, check out my Pinterest board.
